Who is Wealthy Merchant’s Daughter, Xiu?
Xiu looks just like her late mother and has her heart too, Jin says, and that is exactly why their father hates her. Drunk, Huang calls her a cursed girl with her short-lived mother’s face, and says his new wife, Fourth Madam, was right that the two of them brought a curse on the house. Xiu has been ill in bed for years, and the medicine never helps.
Her brother Jin is the one person in the house on her side. When he left to fight with the Mandate she told him not to worry, that their father and Fourth Madam would treat her more kindly now, and promised to wait at home until he came back safe.
You find her in Chapter 4, asleep in an empty house: Huang Manor in Pangzhen. Her Memory Flower, The Severed Finger, lies by her bed.

Her brother’s answer
Jin’s letter to Xiu came with Soul Displacement water: have the maid drink it, it says, and cover her face with the Lady’s Blossom; the Lady is merciful. Soul is sure the way the siblings took their revenge has something to do with the Lady of the Veil.
“But the way they took revenge must have something to do with the Lady of the Veil.”

Tales
A Brother Once More
Shopkeeper Niu, hiding in Myst’s Tavern, gives you the Huang Manor Key and begs you to see justice done for Huang. Upstairs you find Xiu asleep, Memory Flower I (The Severed Finger) and a letter addressed to her. Report back and Niu sends you after Jin, last seen in the Meigu Lake shallows near the Village of Lu.
How this quest turns out
Niu’s story is that the day after Huang gave him the key, all Huang’s maids turned into wooden puppets and tore him apart; he blames the bedridden daughter. The letter on her bed is from Jin, with Soul Displacement water for her maid and the Lady’s Blossom for the maid’s face. Soul tells Niu that no one in the family is left alive, that it was retribution, and that the revenge has something to do with the Lady of the Veil. Niu thinks Jin and Xiu were pushed too far, and did it to avenge their mother.
What happens to Wealthy Merchant’s Daughter, Xiu
The end of the story for this character
The quest leaves Xiu where you found her, asleep in an empty house, and Soul tells Shopkeeper Niu that no one in the family survived. By Niu’s account, Huang died at the hands of his puppet maids; Jin, Transcended and lost to the Sha-Chi over Meigu Lake, never made it home, and the dowry he saved for her lies ruined in the shallows.
The game never says outright what the Soul Displacement water did to Xiu or to her maid, or how Xiu herself ended.
“No one survived.”
