Phantom Blade Zero · Character
Lu Sanqian
Lu Sanqian is the chief of the Village of Lu, an old, sick man climbing the Mountain of Imprisonment in the pouring rain in Chapter 6. The Lady told him in a dream to pray at the shrine on the summit, once his family’s ancestral hall, and he believes she will bring back his village and his granddaughter Cui.

Who is Lu Sanqian?
Lu Sanqian is the chief of the Village of Lu, the sixteenth-generation descendant of the Lu family. The village is gone, ravaged by a strange sickness and wooden puppets, but he will not accept it: he is sure he saw his granddaughter Cui alive, smiling, in the flowered dress she loved.
He blames his family. Their ancestral hall on the summit was built on sacred ground, he writes, and the Lady showed mercy and told him in a dream how to make amends; the hall has since become a shrine to the Lady. His son Jieyuan resented that. Now Lu Sanqian is climbing the mountain to pray there, though Maskwalkers hold it and the road is locked.
You meet him on the climb in Chapter 6: in a cage, then at a locked mountain gate, then caged again. He keeps asking for water. It is pouring with rain, and the more he drinks the thirstier he gets. He tells Soul he is only the fourth fighter this good he has seen; the other three were the Pillars of Kunlun, and Huangxing has lost his mind.

Believed his promise
Near the end he says the Herald, the man the Lady sent to save them, promised the dead could come back, and he means to ask him what to do next.
“No! He promised! He said it could be done!”
In-game dialogueThe Lady he prays to
The Lady of the Veil who came to him in a dream is Meng Hua. Worship of her began only two or three years ago, and the more desperate people become, the more her charity means to them.

Tales
Cui
The quest starts with Cui in the Village of Lu and carries on with him on the Mountain of Imprisonment. Find him on the path to the summit, circle round to open the locked Mountain Gate for him, and free him when the Maskwalkers cage him again. He is desperately thirsty; give him Rootless Dew if you have it.
How this quest turns out
Lu Sanqian dies before he can pray. With the Rootless Dew he lasts long enough for Soul to see him once more below the shrine; without it, Soul finds him already dead at the shrine gate. Either way he leaves Cui’s Red Ribbon and a letter for his son: take them to Cui’s parents.
What happens to Lu Sanqian
The end of the story for this character
Lu Sanqian never reaches the Lady. He dies on the last stretch below the shrine, still asking for her and still saying the Herald promised the dead could come back. Soul finds a Mindseal implanted in his chest, more refined than the old kind, as if from some experiment.
On his body are Cui’s Red Ribbon and an unfinished letter to Jieyuan: the road is dangerous, he wrote, but a mysterious master always appears to help him. Soul later tells Jieyuan he saw his father to his end.
“Elder Lu... he's gone...”

Frequently asked questions
Why is Lu Sanqian always thirsty?
The game never explains it. It is pouring with rain and he says the more he drinks the thirstier he gets; Soul takes it as a sign that he will not last long.
What is the Rootless Dew for?
In Cui it eases Lu Sanqian’s thirst for a while, and he presses on towards the summit.
What happened to the Lu ancestral hall?
It became the Lady’s shrine on the summit of the Mountain of Imprisonment, The Lady’s Shrine, where Soul faces Huangxing.
