Who is Child of Insight?

He greets Soul as a rare visitor, and keeps practising the greeting when no one is there. Soul has heard there is nothing the Child of Insight does not know, and within moments the boy is talking about the headaches that have overwhelmed Soul since childhood.

Then he denies being the Child of Insight at all. The place was once a branch of the Pavilion, he says, and he simply connects those in need with those who can help. Soul knows the Pavilion has more than fifty branches across the Phantom World, that none of their keepers is the Child of Insight, and that rumour gives the name to all the keepers together. The boy only laughs that their true nature is far more complex than that.

What the Pavilion does is hold things in trust: silver, keepsakes, deposits left by Wulin clans, handed over by the rules to whoever brings the right proof.

Who Child of Insight is to the others

  • Brought her keepsakes

    Corpse-Eating Xue

Xue kept the belongings of three famous heroes safe for them. Bring those keepsakes to him and he checks they are genuine, then hands over what their clans left in his care.

“By the rules, what their clans left in my care is now yours!”

    In-game dialogue
  • Holds his deposit

    Peng Meng

Axemaster Peng Meng left silver and the Blood Oath Dagger with the Pavilion, for whoever brought the proof that the Mandate’s leaders framed the Four Axes.

“Anyway, the Axemaster entrusted this to me. Whoever brings me this evidence may claim the silver he left behind... along with the Blood-Oath Blade.”

    In-game dialogue
  • Has the evidence on him

    Sect Leader Ming

Once you hand over the proof against the Mandate’s leaders, the Child of Insight remarks that Sect Leader Ming is about to run into trouble at Cloud Crest Peak. He knows plenty about the Mandate’s leaders, he admits, but shares it only with the right people.

“Oh, it seems sect leader Ming is about to run into some trouble at Cloud Crest Peak...”

    In-game dialogue
  • Knows his secrets

    Soul

He knows things about Soul that a stranger should not, like the headaches that have made him lose control since he was a boy, and wonders aloud whether one of those episodes already caused a tragedy.

“Since you were a boy, Master Soul... there've been times when intense headaches overwhelm you and you lose control.”

Every quest with Child of Insight in it

  1. Tales

    Xue, Admirer of Heroes

Collect the Heroes’ Belongings Xue was keeping, scattered around the heroes’ graves in the Mandate Encampment, and give them to the Child of Insight in Pangzhen. He recognises the belongings of three great masters of the southern clans and gives you what their clans left with him.

  2. Tales

    Four Fierce Axes

Gather the evidence that the Mandate’s leaders slandered the Four Axes, from Peng Meng’s last letter onward, and deliver it to the Child of Insight in Pangzhen. As Peng Meng arranged, he gives you the silver the Axemaster left and the Blood Oath Dagger the four brothers swore their oath with.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Child of Insight a real child?

The game never says. He looks and sounds like a precocious child, denies being the Child of Insight, and says their true nature is more complex than Soul thinks.

What does the Child of Insight give for the Four Axes evidence?

The Blood Oath Dagger and the silver Peng Meng left with the Pavilion of Knowledge.

How many Pavilion of Knowledge branches are there?

More than fifty across the Phantom World, Soul says. The one you visit is in Pangzhen.
