Myst

Myst is the middle of Inanis’ three artisan sisters, and she keeps to the Order’s secret tavern in Pangzhen. Soul Tempering is her art: she draws lingering memories out of objects and puts them into a weapon. She is also the only one besides Inanis who can restore the Chord’s pipa.

Who is Myst?

Myst is the middle triplet, sister to Forge and Jewel, and like them an artisan in Inanis’ service. She usually hides out in a secret tavern of The Order in Pangzhen and greets Soul with an offer of a drink. Her two sisters carry themselves with great pride, Soul tells her, but even they cannot deny her skill.

To Myst a weapon is more than a mere tool: in its master’s hands it becomes almost a living thing, sometimes their closest friend. She does not claim to make weapons stronger, only to help them recover their “memory”.

She also knows the way north. Meigu Lake lies between Pangzhen and the weeping Soul hears, and the Sha-Chi hanging over it breeds hallucinations that drive boatmen and passengers into the water. To cross you need a Sha-Chi-powered boat; the Boatmaster disappeared when the sickness swept through Pangzhen, but one of the Order’s boats may still be at his dock.

    Forge, the eldest and the smith. It is Forge who tells Soul that Myst’s gift, waking a weapon’s true power with Phantom Arts, is the most remarkable of the three sisters’ crafts.

    Myst knows the Chord’s pipa at once: Inanis made it for her daughter. Bring her its missing strings, head and backplate and she will restore it.

    She is one of Inanis’ artisans, and apart from Inanis herself the only one who can restore the Chord’s pipa.

    Daoist Bi Di sits in her tavern watching the fish. She teases him for it, and it is her Soul Tempering he has in mind when he asks you to restore the sword his senior brother left behind.

    When the cube from Meigu Lake is beyond her, Myst says the Order’s Grand Scholar Xuan Li would know far more about such things.

    Illusory Pipa

    Jewel sends you to her with the Chord’s broken pipa. Myst asks for its strings, head and backplate, points you to the Boatmaster’s Dock for the crossing to Meigu Lake, and once all three pieces are found restores it as the Illusory Pipa. It can dispel Phantom Barriers, she says, and may open paths once hidden from you.

    The Cube

    A fisherman in her tavern lost two companions on Meigu Lake after they found a strange stone and talked of offering it to the Lady. You bring back only two fragments of a cube. Myst says beings beyond even gods drift among the stars and this may have fallen from their vessel; she cannot recreate its mysteries, but she shapes it into something that helps you control your Phantom Edges, the Remnant Spark Cube.

    The Sword and the Way

    Daoist Bi Di, in her tavern, sends you to an abandoned smithy on the Pangzhen backstreet for Bronze Essence, to Soul Temper the Tianxuan Bronze Sword his senior brother, Sect Leader Bi Yuan, left behind. When the sword shines again, Bi Di tells Myst her art is wondrous indeed.
