Who is Jade Dancer?

The bestiary describes a woman with a cold face and a Fiend Saw blade under each foot, driven by supple legs, her movement like lightning. She was an orphan, saved by the Shadow Sovereign in a moment of peril. When she was first set to follow the young Xiaokui she called herself a subordinate and would not leave her post; Xiaokui told her to stop, and asked her to be her big sister, so that she would have family. Something tender took root in a woman who had always kept her heart cold.

On the training ground she is iron with the Young Mistress; off it she patiently teaches her to ease the ache in her ankles, and keeps every gift Xiaokui has given her. She may have spent more days at Xiaokui’s side than Mu Tianmiao himself. Since his death, she fears for Xiaokui more than for the Order.

You fight her in the Village of Lu, where she and Iron Fiend stand with Xiaokui against Soul (“Jade Dancer, Iron Fiend, heed me! Iron-Jade strike!”). Later, on top of the Mirrorwood Sha-Chi Tower, she asks Soul for another round. Her Fiend Saws are the weapon Xiaokui drops in her third phase.

Every quest with Jade Dancer in it

  1. Story

    Heartless Remnants

In the Village of Lu she stands guard for Xiaokui, and you fight her there. If you carry all five Red Ribbons into Xiaokui’s fight at the Lakeside bell, Jade Dancer and Iron Fiend join a third phase.

  2. Tales

    Use It Against Them

Later, on top of the Mirrorwood Sha-Chi Tower in the Crimson Forest, she asks Soul for another round, and this time he must beat her and Iron Fiend with their own weapons only: the Fiend Saws as main weapon and the Iron Gauntlets as Phantom Edge. Win and she gives him a small token of respect.

Jade Dancer, Young Mistress’s Guardian

A woman of a cold face. A Fiend Saw long-blade under each foot; she drives the twin blades with supple legs, her movement like lightning, her cuts unmatched. Together with Iron Fiend she trains the Young Mistress Mu Xiaokui and serves as guard; they work as one.

Jade Dancer was an orphan, saved by the Shadow Sovereign in a moment of peril. Later young Mu Xiaokui called her "Sister," saying she would be her family—and something tender took root in this woman who had always kept her heart cold.

The duty of a bodyguard soon became a care and loyalty that came from the bone. On the training ground she is iron with the Young Mistress; off it, she patiently teaches her to press the right points, easing the ache in her ankles. Every gift from the Young Mistress she keeps in silence. The days she has spent at the Young Mistress's side may even outlast those of the Shadow Sovereign himself.

After old Sovereign Mu passed, undercurrents rose in the Order, and the Wulin too was full of sudden turns. No one knows better than Jade Dancer how heavy a load sits on the Young Mistress's shoulders. And more than the Order's fortunes, she fears for the Young Mistress's life.

What happens to Jade Dancer

The end of the story for this character

She stays with Xiaokui. At the Mirrorwood Sha-Chi Tower, where Soul urges Xiaokui to leave and build a new Order, Jade Dancer tells him the Young Mistress bears a heavy burden, but they will never leave her side.

She appears once more on a snowy road in the Mirrorwood, sealed in ice after the phantom realm fades, in the middle of a fight: “By the Young Mistress’s order, I come to your aid!” Then she takes her leave: “Master Soul, until we meet again!”

“But we will never leave her side.”
