Who is Wu Xuan?
In the years when Maskwalkers roamed in hordes, Wu Xuan led his men against them. He ordered his whole army to undergo Transcension, and watched his comrades go mad one by one. He put them down himself, then grafted their devices into his own flesh, hoping to bring them home that way.
He has not left those years behind. Device upon device, his humanity has fallen away; his mind has begun to slip between the Waking Realm and the Discordance, and he believes he must deliver the souls of the dead to the Blight. He looms like an iron tower and swings a spiked club like a rabid wolf.
You meet him in Chapter 4, in the backstreets of Pangzhen. His heavy armour shares its origins with Zhuo Bi’s, the gatekeeper you pass in the Village of Lu.
Who Wu Xuan is to the others
His gatekeeper
Zhuo Bi guards the Village of Lu under Wu Xuan’s command. He grew up in the camps, went east or west as the general ordered, and took Transcension without a word when told. The Brass Chest Guard is Wu Xuan’s gift to him: “the most loyal and courageous among those under my command”.

Mysteries
Sha-Chi Powered Boat
The boat master’s notes at Meigu Lake say a powerful Maskwalker in Pangzhen carries a special Transcension Core, and two of them will run his mechanical boat. Beat Wu Xuan in the backstreets for one, Gu Wanyue for the other, and fit both to the boat.
In the game’s own words
The game’s bestiary note on each form you fight. They are folded shut because some of them give away what happens later.
Wu Xuan, the Fallen General
A general who once led his troops in bloody battles against the Maskwalkers, later stationed in the backstreets of Pangzhen. His heavy armor shares its origins with that of Zhuo Bi, gatekeeper of the Village of Lu. Looming like an iron tower, he swings his spiked club with crushing force and the bloodlust of a rabid wolf. When cornered, he can turn Sha-Chi into Chaos Fire to sear his enemies.
Countless Transcended have died at his hands, their devices grafted onto his own body. He still lives in the years when Maskwalkers roamed in hordes. Defying every objection, he ordered his entire army to undergo Transcension, only to see his comrades all descend into madness. After putting them down himself, he embedded their devices in his flesh, hoping to bring them home that way.
But his corruption has gone too deep. As device upon device accumulates, his humanity falls away. His consciousness has begun to pass briefly between the Waking Realm and the Discordance, even drawing close to the latter's depths... He understands now that this is their true home. He must devour more devices, draw ever nearer, and deliver the countless souls of the dead to the Blight!
What happens to Wu Xuan
The end of the story for this character
Soul beats him in the backstreets and takes the Transcension Core from his body; fitted to the boat master’s boat, it carries Soul out over Meigu Lake. The game says nothing more of him after that.
