Who is Hua?

Hua and Hui grew up together and had long been in love. Her father, Song Fu, wanted money. He agreed to marry her to Master Li’s only son, a young man the matchmaker praised for his health and his appetite, brushed aside the talk about his daughter and the neighbour’s boy, and plotted with the Lis to murder Hui so she would give up hope. Hui had asked her to run away with him, at midnight by the stream outside the village.

Now she is a puppet. In the Flesh Lily Fields she has laid out a wedding hall among the spider lilies, with wedding invitations that each name a different groom, every name circled in red with “my husband” beside it. She writes letters to her dear husbands, Liu Shangli, Huang Miao, Jia Qianqiu, promising to wait beneath the smoke-filled tower. A reckless notice calls men to Spider Lily Valley to catch the lovely bride, and they turn up waving marriage pledges and fighting each other over her. All who come fall to her Scarlet Wraithblade, and their bodies feed the Flesh Lilies that grow there.

Hui’s grave stands behind the wedding hall, empty. She greets Soul the way she greets them all: “My love? …Is that you?”

Hua, Deadly Betrothed

A puppet bride has arranged a wedding hall amid the spider lilies beneath the Sha-Chi Tower in Weeping Creek Valley. All who follow the marriage contract or the rumors fall to her Scarlet Wraithblade. Their bodies lie among the flowers born beneath that blade, nourishing the Flesh Lilies.

Hua and Hui grew up together and had long loved one another. Her father, coveting wealth, ignored both her wishes and the Li bridegroom's feeble mind, forcing her to marry into the family. To extinguish her hopes, he even conspired with the Lis to murder Hui.

Hui's empty grave still stands behind the wedding hall. Though Hua has become a puppet and forgotten much of her past, one belief endures: when the Flesh Lily ripens, her beloved will return to life.

What happens to Hua

The end of the story for this character

The wedding her father planned ended in blood. Hui never came; news of his death did, and the groom. She lulled the groom to sleep, took the knife hidden at the bottom of her dowry chest and killed him, then slipped away in the chaos. She had heard of a way to bring the dead back.

Soul beats her in her wedding hall, and her blade becomes the Scarlet Wraithblade. The game never says outright what becomes of her after that, and Hui’s grave stays empty.
